HP is one of the most reputable electronics companies designing and manufacturing a wide range of products, including laptops for workaholics and gamers. HP Pavilion and Envy are popular products available on the market.
However, many users find it challenging to choose the best one that fits their needs and budget. The good news is that I have used both laptops, and in today’s article, I will give you a comprehensive review of these laptops. So, let’s get started!

Design
HP Pavilion and Envy almost have a similar design, making it difficult to differentiate between the two laptops. Both laptops have a beautiful silver appearance and finish. However, HP Pavilion has bigger screen bezels than HP Envy.
In addition, there is no logo on the HP Pavilion, unlike the HP Envy with a logo inserted on the screen. Colors are another essential design feature I want to discuss. The Pavilion comes in different colors, including the black version with a black keyboard.
It also comes in the snowy, all-white version. On the other hand, the HP Envy comes in all white or all black. Again, differentiating between the two based on colors is not easy. Moreover, HP Pavilion does not have a sophisticatedly durable build quality
The Pavilion is made of plastic and metal, and the manufacturer has used alloys for the screen lid and keyboard. In contrast, HP Envy has a beautiful design and durable build quality. It weighs 2.88 pounds or 1.3 Kg and is 0.58 inches thick for the 13-inch laptop.
However, the HP Envy 15-inch laptop weighs 4.53 pounds or 2.5kig with a thickness of 0.67 inches. Therefore, when choosing the Envy laptops, make sure you consider the weight and thickness.
Performance
Although HP Pavilion and Envy have the same configurations, the latter comes with the Intel 10th Gen Core, making it stronger than Pavilion with the 8th Gen Intel Core. Both laptops are ideal for everyday use and can handle a wide range of tasks.
In addition, both laptops come with AMD or Intel graphics cards or integrated MX150 or MX250, making them suitable for gaming. However, these graphics cards are not ideal for high-level games, such as Call of Duty 2019 and the latest developments of the Battlefield franchise.
On the other hand, HP Pavilion and Envy are excellent laptops for people who use heavy software applications, thanks to the similar hardware configuration. The primary difference between these laptops regarding performance is the Intel Core. Because HP Envy has the 10th Gen Intel Core, it will give you improved performance than Pavilion.
Display and Battery Life
Because I have used HP Pavilion and Envy, my experience shows that Envy has a better display than Pavilion. It has remarkable viewing quality, thanks to the 1080p display. On the other hand, HP Pavilion supports a 720p display/screen.
It means the HP Envy creates a more immersive graphical experience for users. However, the difference is not that much evident for most laptop users. Battery life is another essential aspect of these two laptops I want to talk about in this review.
Although the manufacturer claims that Pavilion has a battery life of up 10 hours in ideal condition, this is not the case. I have used the laptop and found that the battery life is no more than 7-8 hours. However, this depends on the application you run on the laptop.
I reduced the brightness and turned off Wi-Fi and other features to test the Pavilion’s battery. I found that the battery lasted for about eight hours and 22 minutes. Remember, when you increase brightness, turn on Wi-Fi, and run high-level applications, you may need to charge the battery every two hours.
On the other hand, the HP Envy is a clear winner regarding battery life. It has a 3-cell 50Wh battery that lasts up to 14 hours. However, when you turn on Wi-Fi, browse the internet, or run heavy games/apps, the battery will last for 11 hours. I believe this is still valuable, making Envy a better choice.
Technical Features
The AMD Ryzen or Intel Core i7 processor of the HP Envy makes it a high-performance laptop. The laptop comes with a 1TB PCIe SSD storage device and 16GB RAM. In addition, HP Envy has dedicated graphics cards, such as NVidia MX150 or MX250.
In contrast, HP Pavilion has an 8th Gen Intel Core i7 processor or AMD processor. It has 16GB of RAM and 1TB SSD/1TB HDD. Similarly, HP has incorporated the dedicated MX250 graphic card. However, some models also come with integrated Intel or AMD graphic cards.
Keyboard and Touchpad
Because people buy HP Pavilion and Envy for office work or running high-level applications, it is crucial to compare the keyboard and touchscreen of these laptops. The Envy has a full-sized keyboard with soft and reliable keys.
The well-spaced keys allow the users to work smoothly. However, I’m not too fond of Envy’s keyboard is the up and down buttons. These keys are two extensive. In addition, the keyboard performs well and provides visual feedback to the user, thanks to the backlit lighting.
On the other hand, HP Pavilion’s keyboard is pretty impressive. The keyboard is 15 or 17 inches and comes with a NumPad. The keyboard’s buttons have an optimal size, allowing you to type quickly without any problems. Similarly, the touchpad of both these laptops is up to the mark.
Upgrade Options
Unlike HP Envy, the HP Pavilion has a reliable upgrade option, allowing the user to upgrade the SDD, HDD, RAM, WLAN, and other components. However, it would be best not to upgrade the HP Pavilion laptop yourself because it can lead to complications.
For example, opening the laptop’s cover is challenging for most users, increasing the risk of damages. Although you can upgrade Envy’s SSD and RAM, it requires careful planning and preparation because this laptop is more vulnerable to damages by hardware changes.
Final Words
While HP Envy and HP Pavilion come with incredible features, I prefer HP Envy because it comes with a 10th Gen Intel Core i7 processor. It allows you to run heavy software applications without any problems.
