How to fix NVIDIA display settings are not available error?

NVIDIA Display settings are not available. You are not currently using a display attached to an NVIDIA GPU” one of the common errors Nvidia users face nowadays. The main reason behind “NVIDIA Display settings are not available” error is that display is not connected with NVIDIA GPU or display connected in the wrong port, and your driver may need an update. We tried several solutions ourselves and found the best solution for Windows 10, Windows 8 and all other Pc.

Best fix to Nvidia display settings Error 

There are Main two ports to connect the display cable. You can either connect your display to Intel integrated graphics or NVIDIA discrete graphics card port. Before trying any other solution, you need to confirm your monitor connected to the Discrete graphics card port” [ shown in the image ].

Now restart your computer and check the error message “NVIDIA Display settings are not available. You are not currently using a display attached to an NVIDIA GPU” gone or not. Check other solutions if this error still exists.


Fix 2: Change the Adapter Output

Use VGA to HDMI Converter and Use the HDMI port on your graphics card. Restart the computer and see if the fix works or not.


Fix 3: Check NVIDIA Display Driver Service

Nvidia display driver service builds a connection between the operating system and Nvidia hardware. If this display driver service stopped working, you would get “NVIDIA Display settings are not available” error. So, we have to check whether it’s working or not. For checking this, follow the below instructions.

Step 1: Press Windows + R, it will open Run dialog box > Type “Services.msc” in the Run dialog box > Press OK

Step 2: A service menu will open, search the “NVIDIA Display Driver Service” from the menu.

Step 3: Right-click on “NVIDIA Display Driver Service” and select “Properties” 

Step 4: From properties, select “Startup type” and change it to “Automatic

Step 5: Click Apply > Press Ok

Now check your Nvidia setting for error status. During our trial, maximum error was solved with Method 1, 3, 4.


Fix 4: Update or Reinstall NVIDIA graphics driver

You have to uninstall the current driver before reinstalling it. You can uninstall manually or through Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) app. Display Driver Uninstaller will help you to remove all old driver residuals, so it will not cause any problem later.

Step 1: Install Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) [ optional ] ( you can manually uninstall the current driver and restart the computer then skip to step 6 )

Step 2: launch Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU)

Step 3: After the first launch, a menu window will appear , here you need to check the boxes: Remove “C:\NVIDIA” drivers folder and Remove PhysX.  > Click Close

Step 4: From dropdown menu Select device type > choose GPU and below choose NVIDIA [ marked in the below image ]

Step 5: Now from Display Driver Uninstaller, select “Clean and restart“. It will uninstall current drivers and automatically restart the computer.

( You can experience lower screen resolution after restart because of missing driver )

Step 6: Press Windows + R > Type “devmgmt.msc” in the Run dialog box > press Ok

Step 7: During our test, most of the time, the default driver installed according to hardware. But if the default driver is not installed automatically, then > Right-click in the empty space and select “Scan for hardware changes“. It will automatically install the missing driver.

Step 8: Go to GeForce driver download center

Step 9: You can use the manual driver searching feature. Or Auto-detect GPU feature.

Step 10: Download the latest NVIDIA driver. ( Download according to your Windows OS version )

Step 11: Now reinstall the NVIDIA driver

Step 12: After installing the driver, restart your computer.

Hopefully, it will solve your NVIDIA display settings are not available problem.


Fix suggested by Dell officials :

Method 1

Step 1: Uninstall the Current driver. Restart Pc then install Nvidia older driver without GeForce Experience.

Step 2: Go to temp folder (C:/Windows/temp)

Step 3: Search for folder named “NVIDIA Corporation,” > Delete it > Reboot your computer

Step 4: Now, Remove the DisplayLink driver if installed and check if the error fixed or not.

If the error exists, try method 2.


Method 2

Step 1: Ensure all nvidia services are running

Step 2: Open task manager ( search Task manager in your windows search bar, you will find it )

Step 3: Go to processes > check “show all processes from all users“.

Step 4: sort processes by “name“> Find nvidia section.

Step 5: Click “Nvidia control panel” icon ( You can also find it in the control panel under “hardware and sound“)

Step 6: when clicking the icon watch for “nvcplui” or another NVIDIA process to appear in processes. (You can not watch it for a long time, so you have to be quick, but you can try as many as you like ).

Step 7: Once you find the process > Right-click > open the file location.

Step 8: Under “nvplui” app right click > run as admin.
